Appearance: Brass workings enclosed in a temple bell.
Period: Late.
Escapement: Usually verge and balance wheel.
Power Source: Spring.
Construction: Kane-dokei or ‘temple bell’ clocks had their movements placed inside the bell and were suspended from above so that the dial would show at the mouth of the bell. A hammer struck the hours on the outer bell. The clock was wound through an aperture in the bell.
Example: From the John Read Collection.
